A Day in the Life at Working Mums

May 4, 2026 | News

At Working Mums, every nursery day follows a familiar and reassuring rhythm. At the same time, each day is shaped by the children’s interests, energy and imagination.

Consistency helps children feel safe, confident and settled, while flexibility allows us to respond to what excites and inspires them. From arrival to home time, our days are thoughtfully planned to balance learning, play, rest and nourishment.

A Welcoming Start to the Day

Each morning begins with a warm welcome for children and families. After settling in, children enjoy breakfast before coming together for group circle time. This calm start helps children connect with one another, share ideas and feel ready for the day ahead.

Learning Through Play

As the morning continues, children move between indoor and outdoor play. Activities are carefully planned to reflect children’s interests and stages of development, with learning naturally embedded through play. A healthy mid-morning snack provides the energy children need to stay active and engaged.

Time to Rest and Refuel

At midday, children sit together to enjoy a nutritious lunch in a relaxed and social setting. After lunch, children have time to rest, whether through a nap or quiet activities. We recognise that every child’s needs are different, and this quieter period helps children recharge for the afternoon.

An Engaging Afternoon

The afternoon offers opportunities for creative play, outdoor exploration and enriching activities that encourage curiosity and confidence. Children may take part in art, construction, imaginative play or nature-based learning, all at a pace that feels right for them. A later snack supports sustained energy throughout the afternoon.

A Calm End to the Day

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy tea followed by story time. This gentle routine provides a comforting end to the day and helps children transition calmly before heading home.

Enriching Activities and Local Trips

Alongside our daily routine, we offer a range of special activities and local trips to broaden children’s experiences and support their learning. From nature walks and library visits to music sessions and baking, these opportunities help children develop confidence and a growing understanding of the world around them.

Safety is always central to our planning. All activities and trips are carefully risk assessed and supported by appropriate staff ratios to ensure children can explore and learn safely.
